Have your business stand out from the crowd

  • Below is a list of frequently asked questions to help de-mystify web design

How much will my website cost?

There is no simple answer to this question. It depends on how many pages you want, how much input you want into the look and feel of your site and how much artwork needs be created to add impact to your pages (logos, photographs etc). However we can say that our prices do range from £150 for a very simple one page 'business card' type website to £500 for large, multi-page websites. A simple 5-page website usually costs between £200 and £350. An 'average' site (6-10 pages, photographs, contact form) usually works out between £350 and £450. What ongoing costs can I expect?

You will need to pay our yearly hosting fees if you choose to host your site with Loki Labs. This fee depends on your website package but ranges from £40 to £60 per year. You will also need to renew your domain name (either .com or .co.uk) yearly or biannually. The renewal cost depends on the name, but is in the region of £7 to £20 per name.

LOKi Labs can take care of the hosting and domain registration for you, the advantage being one point of contact regarding all aspects of your website.

How long does it take to design a site?

Providing you can get all the content you want to include on your website to us promptly, we can usually produce an average site in two weeks - sometimes less. Larger sites may take longer. It also depends on whether photos, graphics and content already exist. More time should be allowed for sourcing any new photos that are required or writing new content.

Do we need to arrange a meeting?

Nope! Telephone, internet and email contact are fine. For this reason, we can design a site for you whatever your location in the UK, or indeed world-wide.

Can you add content to, or maintain my existing website?

Adding to an existing website that someone else has created can prove to be tricky as different people program websites in different ways with different software (or none at all). However, we are always happy to take a look at your existing website and see if we can make changes for you. Sometimes it is more cost effective to start again from scratch.

What do I have to provide for you to be able to design my website?

First we will need to know how many pages you want to have on your website. We will ask you if you have any existing artwork that you want to use (logos) or if you would like us to create the artwork for you. We will also want to know if you plan to provide us with the photographs for your website, or if you would like us to source suitable photographs. Finally, we will need content for your website.

Will I be able to update my website myself?

We offer a number of updatable websites that can work out as little as £50 per year to bespoke content management system websites. The cost of this is the cost of the basic design plus the cost of set up of the site onto the content managment server is about £150. When thinking about a website you can update yourself, keep in mind that, although content management systems sound good in theory, updates to your site can be time consuming to implement. For this reason, we recommend taking out a content maintenance contract with us instead - it usually works out cheaper, and saves you time. If you require a website that you can update yourself, we would be pleased to talk over the options with you.

I'm not very good at writing - can you write the content for me?

Yes, we offer a professional copy writing service if you require it. This service will be quoted for seperatly from design work.

Can I use my own photographs on my website?

Yes, of course. However, sometimes photographs that you have taken yourself can look unprofessional, and we recommend that you use high quality photographs were possible, either taken by someone who knows what they are doing, or by a professional photographer. Alternatively, we can source photographs on the internet. We can advise on the best options for you.

Why should I ask you to design my website for me?

We are a small company, so you get a very personal and friendly service. Our prices are very competitive as we are able to keep our overheads low. All our websites follow the principles of good website design.
